Prayer on the Fourth Sunday after Trinity. Ev. Luth. Gebets-Schatz

102.  Prayer on the 4th Sunday after Trinity

–Johannes Eichorn (1511-1567)

Lord God, heavenly Father, You have shown mercy to us and promised to forgive us all our sins through Your Son, Jesus Christ.  With all our hearts we pray that You would not judge according to our evil life, our unrighteous walk and our many sins committed in human weakness.  Instead, as our heavenly Father, well-acquainted with our frailty, pardon and forgive all these things, and, in keeping with Your divine, compassionate Father-heart, place upon our heads the crown of eternal blessedness.  Ease and soften our hard, stony hearts also, so that we may gladly forgive our neighbors and show them compassion, not wrongly condemning anyone with a premature, unfounded, or rash judgment, as often happens, but instead gladly pardoning and forgiving everyone, without distinction, from our hearts.  Grant us first to be just, impartial, true and good judges over ourselves, our consciences, and our own hearts and souls, so that we may live Christian, God-fearing lives and die blessed Christian deaths.  Amen.
