Prayer on the Eighth Sunday after Trinity

106.  Prayer on the Eighth Sunday after Trinity

The Rev. Prof. Kurt Marquart, faithful teacher of the Word of God and servant of Christ.

Lord God, heavenly Father!  We thank You with our whole hearts, that You have let us come to the knowledge of Your blessed Word.  But we also ask You that You would graciously preserve us in this knowledge and grant us to die a blessed death in it.  Graciously guard all pious preachers, who faithfully bring forth Your Word, from all persecution, abuse, and other misfortune, and spare them their lives.  But the other sort of preachers, who unfaithfully go around with Your Word and pretend to be pious lambs, but are ravenous wolves, be pleased to punish them according to what they have deserved, make war against them, and graciously save Your poor Christendom from them, through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord.  Amen.

Johannes Eichhorn (1511-1564)
